Experience
I have more than 30 years experience teaching English Language and Linguistics. Around half of these years have been spent teaching in the private sector across Europe and the UK (Hungary, Italy, Spain, Portugal). The remainder have involved teaching Undergraduate, Master and PhD Programmes at the Universities of Edinburgh, York, Exeter, UCE, Glasgow, Edinburgh Napier and Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh. In addition to Masters Dissertation and PhD Theses supervision, I have taught modules on phonetics and phonology, syntax, language change, teaching English as a Foreign language, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, English for Academic Purposes and language and culture studies. I have recently gone into semi-retirement and relocated permanently to Portugal. I am keen, however, to continue to indulge my passion for both teaching and for my subject area. I also recognise that engaging with University education can be rewarding but extremely challenging and would like to continue offering support and guidance for those who are having difficulties meeting these challenges.
